Knowledge is the power that you can use against them. The lack of knowledge is the power that they can use against you.

Meet Kiana Hughes
Political Activist. Educator. Journalist.
Growing up in the streets of Baltimore, Maryland, Kiana became familiar with the effects of poverty, crime, inequality and drug use. While facing these challenges personally, she realized that the public schools were the only thing holding her community together. She can remember a time when school was her sanctuary and learning was her escape. Now, living in Tampa, Florida while she attends the University of Tampa, she promises to inspire children, peers, and politicians to embrace education the way she does. Kiana spends time at local Tampa schools mentoring young students who lack the traditional support and resources other students have. She also devotes scientific research to explore the positive effects education has in poverty-stricken areas. Kiana uses her voice for the voiceless to educate citizens on the lack of quality education that students receive in third-world countries and to lobby Congress to help change that reality. As a student journalist, she enjoys investigating overlooked facets of life and writing to inspire and educate the world. In the end, she expects to see the revolutionized education system she dedicated her entire life to create.
